Technical Efficiency of Malt Barley Production in Malga District of Southern Ethiopia

This study was conducted to assess the technical efficiency of malt barley production in Malga District southern Ethiopia using cross-sectional data. Three stages sampling technique applied draw 186 sample farmers randomly. The interview schedule pre-tested before conducting actual data collection; gathered from households with help trained enumerators. In addition, secondary were collected through review relevant documents sources. Descriptive statistical analysis such as mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum, frequency and percentage used basic household characteristics. Cobb-Douglas stochastic frontier function model estimate determinants differentials production. Maximum likelihood estimation results implied increasing input variables (area, seed, oxen, fertilizer labour) would increase yield coefficients elasticity area, labour 0.88, 0.056, 0.033, 0.032 0.0125 respectively under barley. Consequently, exhibits returns scale sums greater than one which is 1.018. discrepancy ratio, ?, about 0.67 indicating that 67% variation among sampled attributed effects. mean 0.82. estimated inefficiency implies education, experience, extension livestock positively significantly affected Hence, emphasis should be give improve level those less efficient by adopting practices relatively area.
